Migrations et exils

L’une des principales caractéristiques du XX^e siècle est le déplacement de personnes, qui pour des raisons économiques, politiques et sociales furent contraintes à abandonner leur lieu de résidence et à s’installer ailleurs. Si la recherche de meilleurs conditions de vie, voire de survie, échapper aux conflits armées ou aux persécutions politiques ou religieuses sont à l’origine des mouvements migratoires, ceux-ci sont également stimulés par les crises économiques et l’avènement des régimes autoritaires. Migrants, exilés et réfugiés fondent dans les pays d’accueil des associations, publient des journaux, organisent des commémorations et mettent en place des instruments de sociabilité, par le biais desquels sont véhiculés une identité nationale et/ou un positionnement politique. Par ailleurs, ces groupes subissent des processus d’acculturation, qui se reflètent tant dans les activités développées que dans le lien maintenu avec les pays d’origine.

Public Art: Place, Context, Participation

The Instituto de história da arte, Faculdade de ciências sociais e humanas, universidade Nova de Lisboa is organising the International conference « Public Art: Place, Context, Participation », taking place on 23 and 24 October 2015 at Fabrica Santo Thyrso, in Santo Tirso, based on a proposal by the city council of Santo Tirso. The conference is linked to a reflection on the works developed since 1991 by the international symposia on contemporary sculpture, headed by sculptor Alberto Carneiro and professor and art critic Gérard Xuriguera, whose tenth and final edition, currently ongoing, will allow the conclusion of the International museum of contemporary sculpture of Santo Tirso.

L’objectif de ce colloque est d’interroger la sollicitation critique de méthodologies croisées entre les sciences humaines et sociales et les sciences du langage, de questionner les échanges et pratiques pluri-, inter- ou trans-disciplinaires à l'œuvre dans ces champs de recherche. Les contributions interrogeront la manière dont les objets de recherche de chacun.e.s ont nécessité la sollicitation de méthodologies transversales et dont ces méthodologies ont elles-mêmes participé à reconfigurer ces objets.

Work on screen: social memories and identities through cinema

Since the early 20^th century, work in contemporary societies has suffered several processes of change, which, in the context of the current economic and employment crisis, demand equating the structuring of social identities that are built and modified through work. During this period, cinema has been a privileged vehicle for the creation and dissemination of representations on work and, therefore, the shaping of social memories. This international and multidisciplinary seminar aims at gathering and discussing contributions that analyse the social processes involved in the formation of work identities and representations through cinema. It welcomes papers that highlight the main continuities and discontinuities of work memory narratives from the early 20^th century to the present days, based on the analysis of specific films or bodies of films (both documentaries and fictions) and their reception.

Palaces and Urban Dynamics: Centers of power and knowledge in Europe

Palácios e dinâmicas urbanas: centros de poder e de conhecimento na Europa

The European palaces established more than mere residences of monarchs, princes, cardinals, aristocrats and bourgeois. They were centers of power, solid social and political symbols, and also production centers for culture, arts and science. On the other hand, they played a fundamental role by motivating the renovation and expansion of cities. In a broad sense, we can consider the palace as a center that marked not only the inner spaces, but also its surroundings. Starting from this premise and taking the opportunity of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the construction of the so called Palácio de D. Manuel in Évora, this is the ideal context for organizing this international conference.

Contemporary poetics and politics of thee body

Dans une perspective comparatiste et transversale réunissant différentes disciplines théoriques et artistiques, ce colloque a pour but d’ouvrir un dialogue interdisciplinaire et de mettre en jeu les questions que notre contemporanéité pose sur le corps. Prenant en compte les différences territoriales et culturelles, chaque époque historique produit une idée différente du corps et du sujet, qui est intimement liée à ce qui se passe dans les domaines artistiques, théoriques, technologiques, sociaux, politiques et économiques qui la soutiennent. Partant d’une approche interdisciplinaire, cette rencontre est destinée à proposer et approfondir des axes de recherche qui peuvent aider à comprendre la construction de corporalités dans le contexte contemporaine.

Exodes, déplacements et déracinements

Revue Elohi n°8

Pour son prochain numéro, la revue Elohi, Peuples indigènes et environnement se propose de réfléchir sur les liens entre le territoire et les constructions, discours, ressentis identitaires des peuples indigènes, en envisageant notamment la question des déplacements des populations. Devenus étrangers sur la terre de leurs ancêtres depuis la colonisation, les indigènes ont connu des processus de déterritorialisation, reterritorialisation et exodes. Souhaitant également inclure les problématiques brésiliennes à ses travaux, la revue Elohi accueillera des contributions qui examinent la notion de « terre indigène », la démarcation d’un territoire et la représentation que s’en font les peuples indigènes et non-indigènes.

Seminar gathering in Lisbon international experts in architecture rehabilitation and urbanism of the Modern Movement. The seminar organized by Docomomo International will take place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, on the 27th of March. In the last decades, the architectural heritage of the Modern Movement appeared more at risk than during any other period. At the end of the 1980s, many modern masterpieces had already been demolished or had changed beyond recognition. This seminar about Rehabilitation and Re-use of the Modern Movement Architecture aims at bringing together inspiring viewpoints about this global problem.

Merchants, jurists and other "intermediate groups" in Early Modern Southern Europe

Merchants, farmers, jurists, clerks in large institutions, secretaries, independent landowners, local elites and highly sought master craftsmen, among many others, are individuals with an ambiguous social status. Looking at who was not born exactly noble, nor exactly commoner, but stood on the border between one world and the other, is one of the goals of this initiative. As part of a project developed in Portugal focusing on the Holy Office’s familiaturas, it will be held on September 16 and 17, 2015, a workshop at Escuela Española de Historia and Archaeological in Rome. Our aim is to select a total of 8 applicants, that will be joined by 4 guest speakers, for a joint reflection on the dynamics and profiles of ‘intermediate groups’, as well as on the methodologies for their study in Early Modern Times.

Discussion about the role of the Humanities in academia and society has a long history. The confluence of this debate with the changes brought about by digital technology is not new either: one cannot speak of "new technologies" for the Humanities when many researchers turned to digital methods at least four decades ago, in disciplines as diverse as Linguistics, History or Literary Studies. The Conference “Digital Humanities in Portugal” aims precisely to stimulate these intersections, opening up a forum for discussion and sharing of research results or ongoing projects in this field of knowledge.

The International Symposium on Anthropology and Natural Disasters will offer the possibility for a complementary dialogue between the various fields of anthropology, in the understanding and resolution of problems, and in the promotion of new research avenues.

La conférence Avanca | Cinema affirme son importance tant au niveau national qu’international, de par la moyenne des participants mais aussi grâce à la diversité thématique qui la caractérise tout au long de ces 5 éditions. Organisée en parallèle avec le Festival international de cinéma d’Avanca, ceci en fait un événement complet, qui offre aux chercheurs, membres du milieu académique, réalisateurs, producteurs, acteurs, critiques, techniciens, et cinéphiles, entre autres, un programme diversifié comprenant des workshops, des séances de cinéma, des présentations de livres, des tables rondes, ainsi que des séances parallèles et plénières.

Festival de la vidéo de recherche sur les traites, les esclavages et leurs héritages

Le Centre international de recherches sur les esclavages (CIRESC / France) organise depuis plusieurs années le « Festival de la vidéo de recherche sur les traites, les esclavages et leurs héritages » en collaboration avec le laboratoire d’Histoire orale et image de l’université fédérale Fluminense (LABHOI / Brésil) et du Centre interuniversitaire d’études sur les lettres, les arts et les traditions de l’université de Laval (CELAT / Canada). Le festival s’adresse à toute personne menant des recherches en sciences humaines et sociales sur la thématique des traites, des esclavages et de leurs héritages, et qui utilise la vidéo pour diffuser le résultat de ses recherches. Il a ainsi pour objectif d’inciter, de diffuser et de promouvoir les productions filmographiques abordant ces questions.

Décalages : vie et œuvre de José Rodrigues Miguéis

Lorsqu’il quitte le Portugal pour les États-Unis en 1935, José Rodrigues Miguéis (1901-1980) est un écrivain prometteur et un journaliste et militant politique reconnu, ancien membre du groupe Seara Nova, maintenant proche des communistes. À New-York, il poursuit ses activités militantes durant une dizaine d’années puis, après une grave maladie et une tentative infructueuse de retour définitif au Portugal, il finit par se consacrer pleinement à l’écriture. La majeure partie de son œuvre ne sera publiée en volume qu’à partir de 1958, à près de soixante ans, si bien que l’écrivain exilé se retrouve en décalage avec le Portugal (ses lecteurs, la société et la dictature en vigueur), mais aussi avec la vision du monde ayant présidé à l’écriture d’une grande partie de ses écrits inédits. C’est dans le cadre de ce parcours biobibliographique particulier que les communicants s’intéresseront à l’œuvre fictionnelle et non fictionnelle migueisienne. Alors que son œuvre est de plus en plus étudiée au Portugal, aux USA et au Brésil, ce premier colloque consacré à José Rodrigues Miguéis en France sera l’occasion de mieux faire connaître cette grande figure méconnue de l’histoire culturelle portugaise du XX^e siècle.

Les droites latino-américaines pendant la guerre froide (1959–1989) : l’autre révolution ?

Posant l’hypothèse que les droites latino-américaines d’aujourd’hui ne peuvent se comprendre que dans une temporalité et un régime d’historicité qui s’inscrivent dans la guerre froide, nous chercherons à savoir si l’on a assisté à l’émergence d’une nouvelle génération de droites à partir des années 1960 et si celle-ci est en lien avec la révolution néoconservatrice engagée par Ronald Reagan aux États-Unis et Margareth Thatcher en Angleterre au début de la décennie 80. À partir de l’étude des partis et leaders politiques mais aussi des acteurs sociaux, économiques et culturels, nous chercherons à mettre en valeur des processus circulatoires d’idées et de théories, d’acteurs et de pratiques, de symboles et de sensibilités.

Intermediate Groups in the Portuguese Dominions, 16th-18th century

Revista de História (Universidade de São Paulo)

The Revista de História of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) invites interested scholars to submit proposals for articles to be published as part of a ‘dossier’ concerning intermediate groups in the Portuguese dominions on the Early Modern Age. Throughout that period, ‘middle people’ strove to assert themselves in rural areas and helped to shape old and new urban centers in the Portuguese World, corresponding to an increased demand for specialized services and ensuring the necessary extensions of royal representation functions and Church activities. Even though almost non-existent in juridical or normative terms, those groups were recognized both by nationals and foreigners as a complex and vibrant intermediate social layer. Time has come to try and distinguish its specificities, trends of formation and effective roles in social dynamics.
