Counter-mapping in the Americas 16th-21st centuries
Quels enjeux se trouvent derrière les dynamiques contre-cartographiques dans le contexte des Amériques ? Dans quel contexte les logiques contre-cartographiques peuvent-elles se mettre en place ? Comment se créent-elles et de quelles impulsions émanent-elles ? Quels savoirs sont mobilisés dans les processus d’élaboration contre-cartographique ? Dans quelle mesure parviennent-elles à déjouer les représentations hégémoniques de l’espace ?

What remains of postmodernity?
Since the 70s, the word postmodernity has articulated a tendency, a state of mind, and a condition that resists conceptualization or complete definition. Although the intellectual community has agreed to situate J. F. Lyotard and his key work, The Postmodern condition (1979), as the origin of the debate on this phenomenon, the truth is that the literary theorist Ihab Hassan had already used the word systematically in 1971. Since that date, the notion has spread across the fields of Literature, Architecture, Visual Arts, and the Social Sciences. These are two of the problems that one faces when approaching the surface of the postmodern phenomenon: its lack of definition and its ambiguous periodization.

La rencontre propose de revoir les hypothèses sur la production, la fonctionnalité et la circulation de ces objets de luxe, le collectionnisme et les enjeux de la conservation de ces œuvres.

Thinking Latin American Right-Wings in the 20th Century
This conference is the continuation of two previous conferences held in France (2014) and Argentina (2016) which saw the gradual emergence of a community of researchers working on the questions of identities, ideas, practices and discourses of actors and movements from Latin American rightwing. It is difficult to establish the precise conceptual limits of the rightwing because of the heterogeneity and plurality of the groups and movements that have historically been part of this family and which are thus characterized by the presence of diverse political traditions. It is therefore essential to imagine flexible boundaries when considering rightwing history and taking into account the changes it experienced over time. Our purpose is not to establish canonical definitions, but rather to contribute to set general frameworks for this field of study whose historical relevance and actuality are no longer to be demonstrated, but whose limits and fundamental characteristics are still debated.

Cette journée d’études entend étudier des œuvres cinématographiques et audiovisuelles de l’Amérique latine proposant des représentations des interactions entre le pouvoir et la liberté. Du fait de son enracinement dans les expériences quotidiennes de l’être humain, la création cinématographique et audiovisuelle produite dans cette région offre des éléments qui contribuent à une compréhension de ces notions complexes. Le pouvoir et la liberté sont des pratiques constitutives des relations interhumaines (historiques, politiques, économiques, culturelles, intimes, locales, globales…), dont la théorisation requiert d’instruments disciplinaires et méthodologiques variés.

Cette journée a pour objet d'étude le théâtre comme instrument de protestation et de dissidence en Espagne dans les dernières années de la dictature et au début de la démocratie. L’objectif de cette journée est donc de s’interroger sur le caractère revendicatif, critique et protestataire du théâtre et les moyens mis en place dans un contexte de répression culturelle, ainsi qu’à l’aube de la démocratie.

The Transatlantic Embrace: Spanish Civil War in America’s Intimate Distance
Spanish Civil War has been studied under its multiple angles. This can also be said about the literature concerning this topic: novels, poems, and all literary forms generated by this armed conflict (both by Spanish and foreign intellectuals) have been commented by academic criticism from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. However, fewer approaches have set the axis of their critical focus on the importance of the Spanish conflict in America and its decisive relevance as a part of a phenomenon that is also American. This special number of the FORMA journal sets out to give a voice to all types of contributions able to shed a new light on this fundamental aspect of the war, whose causes and consequences are clearly rooted in Spain, but whose horizon overflows the peninsular and continental borders and requires an inevitably transatlantic point of view.

Sedition and Revolt in Modern European Political Thought
As part of the ANR project “Cultures of Revolts and revolutions in Europe”, we wish to bring together international contributors in a discussion of the european political thought brought about by various uprisings between the end of the Middle Ages and the modern era, whether it be reflections over a particular event, or more general considerations over the causes of sedition and protest movements, the means to prevent or suppress new episodes, and their adverse – or regenerative – effects.

Writing history for young people
The past two decades have seen an increase in the number of publications in France on the subject of youth literature, which have approached the subject from various historical angles. Generally tending to favour the colonial period or periods of conflict and mainly focusing on the issue of propaganda, these studies have examined the creation of a colonial or war culture for children. Most notable among these studies are La guerre des enfants: 1914-1918 (The children’s war: 1914-1918) by Stéphane Audoin-Rouzeau (1993) and, more recently, Enfants en temps de guerre et littératures de jeunesse XXe-XXIe siècles (Wartime children and youth literature from the 20th-21st centuries), edited by Catherine Milkovitch-Rioux et al (2013), and Enfance et colonies: fictions et représentations (Children and colonies: stories and representations) (volume 3 of the online journal Strenæ, edited by Mathilde Lévêque, 2012). In an extension of these studies, this volume of Amnis aims to invite discussion more specifically on the writing of history for young people.

Letters from women in medieval Europe (11th-15th century)
Miroir de l’âme mais aussi instrument de communication et d’action politique, la lettre est un objet d’étude qui suscite, depuis quelques années, une attention particulière. La correspondance des femmes est cependant un domaine encore peu exploré et, en dépit de travaux ponctuels sur la production épistolaire de quelques reines, princesses ou nobles dames, rares sont les études d’ensemble sur ce sujet. Pourtant, les lettres de femmes contiennent de précieuses informations sur leur vie, leurs aspirations, et leur rôle au sein de la société. Consacrées aux documents de la pratique mais aussi aux lettres fictives que l’on trouve dans l’historiographie et la littérature, les communications présentées lors de ce colloque examineront les spécificités de ces divers écrits.

Would they ever recognize the museum activity of acquiring the valued collections that are put on display as the result of a predatory undertaking? It is true that museums are discerning but eager recipients of gifts offered by individuals who cross their threshold and who are willing to donate or bequeath their treasured possessions to their local museum. These ongoing acts of charity aside, museums have other avenues of collection-building which they explore and have done so since their inception.

The question of repentance now applies to the public sphere and concerns huge collective bodies as well as individuals. It has a complex relationship with history. Repentance has even become a global issue and now concerns a wide range of geographical and cultural areas as well taking on many forms referring to facts whose scale, temporal distance or context are in no way comparable with it. Indeed, the roots of repentance are to be found in many traditions (religious, cultural, national and community) and nowadays, announcements (through the media at large) give rise to secular forms of repentance which are devoid of the dimensions that traditionally form the definition of repentance.

During the final talks of the fruitful international conference named “body languages in comics” set up by the junior drawn sciences laboratory of the Ecole normale supérieure (ENS) in Lyon on 8th and 9th October 2014, the idea to carry on, in a more precise way, the numerous debates on the occasion of a later scientific event was mentioned. In light of this, the C3S laboratory (“culture, sport, health and society”) of the University of Bourgogne/Franche-Comté organises holding an international symposium in order to study how sport is depicted in comics. Researchers in the C3S laboratory dedicate their work to sport sciences with a theoretical and epistemological commitment marked by interdisciplinarity. According to this stance, the international conference is open to various contributions allowing to understand the representations (whether they be historical, sociological, anthropological, literary, semiotic, psychological…etc…) of sport in comics.

With the contribution of specialists in several branches of humanities, our purpose is to bring to light some neglected or partially studied aspects of this great classical thinker and exemplary figure of scientific eclecticism, who played a great part in the universalization of knowledge. We will pay special attention to the way in which Boethius’ scientific and cultural legacy was included in the works of other European authors, and was renewed according to the feelings, anxieties and aspirations particular to every age and historical context.

Literature and democratic transitions: case studies
Literaturas y transiciones democráticas: estudio de casos
Depuis plus d’une vingtaine d’années, la question des rapports de la littérature et de la démocratie se pose dans un contexte de renouvellement de l’intérêt pour la nature des liens qu’entretiennent la littérature et la politique, mais aussi de reconfiguration des questionnements que les sciences humaines et sociales adressent à la littérature, qu’elles la tiennent pour l’exemple déjà réalisé d’organisations cognitives et de catégorisations politiques et morales, pour un savoir social, pour une forme de connaissance ou de philosophie pratique, etc. Les transitions démocratiques intervenues depuis le milieu des années 1970 en Europe du Sud, en Amérique latine, en Asie, en Europe de l’Est à partir de 1989, et dans certains pays arabes récemment ne sont pas étrangères à ces interrogations. On se propose d’analyser précisément comment la littérature s’est trouvée mêlée à ces processus historiques, d’étudier la manière dont elle peut participer d’une logique de formulation de la démocratie.

Memory, truth and justice in Uruguay
Memoria, vedrdad y justica en Uruguay
Ce colloque organisé par ILCEA, propose de faire un état des lieux de la gestion politique et sociétale du passé prédictatorial et dictatorial du point de vue des constructions mémorielles, de la recherche et de la connaissance de la vérité, et des enquêtes et procès judiciaires nationaux et internationaux. L’axe civilisations hispaniques de l’Institut des langues et cultures d’Europe et d’Amérique mène depuis 4 ans un projet autour de la mémoire des événements traumatisants et des relations internationales dans le monde hispanique, déjà concrétisé par l’organisation des colloques internationaux. Dans la continuité de ces projets et dans le cadre d’initiatives internationales de soutien à l’Uruguay et de réflexions sur la gestion du passé traumatique, l’ILCEA organise un colloque international en faisant appel à des magistrats et des universitaires, acteurs clés de la lutte pour la vérité et la justice en Uruguay, ainsi que des spécialistes français et internationaux des droits de l’Homme.
