  Materialities and inventories: treasuries, arsenals and memorials

  La façon et les raisons pour lesquelles les archives de famille étaient inventoriées retiendront ici l’attention, tant pour la péninsule Ibérique que pour le piémont pyrénéen, entre Moyen Âge et modernité. Les inventaires anciens d’archives, plus nombreux qu’on ne le croit, instruments de travail ou registres de prestige, témoignent de l’organisation matérielle des fonds alors constitués, ordonnés d’une certaine manière (sacs, coffres, armoires, pièces et personnel dédiés…), et ce, pour gouverner, affirmer et défendre son pouvoir, construire une mémoire. Pour les familles, en particulier de haut rang, la réalisation d’inventaires n’est jamais innocente : divers contextes, modalités et enjeux ont entouré leur confection, et a fortiori leur révision - en parallèle à des reclassements – ou leur mise en collection au cours du temps ou avec d’autres types d’objets et d’inventaires signifiants pour la famille (meubles, objets précieux, bibliothèques…). L’expertise de ceux qui les ont dressés - visible dans la qualité des descriptions, les cotations et recotations successives - se met ainsi au service d’une famille, d’une politique, de droits, d’un patrimoine qu’il s’agit de faire fructifier, défendre ou quasi sacraliser par la mémoire, une certaine mémoire, des archives, condensée dans les inventaires.

  Class, Gender and Peacebuilding in Peru (1961-2014)

  Según el historiador Franklin Pease, ‘hacer una historia de la subversión en el Perú con elemental seriedad, requiere disponer de información confiable, casi nunca al alcance del investigador’. Trabajar sobre grupos alzados en armas que se organizaron en el marco de la 'lucha de clases' desde los años 1960, es tarea difícil en la medida en que significa trabajar sobre la clandestinidad. Nombrar, investigar o repensar a grupos como el ‘Partido Comunista del Perú-Sendero Luminoso’ (PCP-SL) y el Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru (MRTA) supone un peligro para el investigador: ser llamado ‘terrorista’ es común en un medio donde el discurso oficial y el discurso académico han confluido para dar una versión única. Maritza Felices-Luna y Anouk Guiné los invita a someter un capitulo para el libro colectivo que sigue el coloquio internacional « Clase, Género y Construccion de la Paz en el Peru (1961-2014) » que se llevo a cabo en Ayacucho (Peru) en julio 2014.

  Purity and Impurity

  Hamsa. Journal of Judaic and Islamic Studies, nº 2

  “Purity” and “Impurity” establish themselves as structural categories in both Islam and Judaism, embracing dimensions as diverse as the body, food, clothing and even space itself. The 2^nd issue of the journal Hamsa will be devoted to this wide-ranging theme, seeking to obtain diachronic historical perspectives. To this effect, we aim to promote the analysis of interfaith relationships, in those instances where purity and impurity are projected in contacts with the Other. Those dimensions concern not only the minorities, but also affect Christianitas itself, through interiorization of these concepts and their application to minority communities (as is the case, for example, with limpeza de sangue - “cleanliness of blood”).

  Regards réciproques : la France et le Pérou (1713-1959)

  Voyageurs, écrivains et savants

  À partir de 1534, la France s’est intéressée au Pérou et à ses trésors devenus le butin des conquérants espagnols. « Riche comme le Pérou » ou « ce n’est pas le Pérou », ces expressions usuelles ont contribué à l’idéalisation du pays situé aux antipodes. Mais ce ne sont pas seulement les richesses naturelles qui ont attiré les regards des Français sur l’empire inca et l’immense vice-royauté. Les expéditions et les travaux de terrain se sont multipliés à partir du XVIII^e siècle, et construisaient un Pérou mi-imaginaire mi-réel. Les guerres d’indépendance attirèrent aventuriers désargentés et prospecteurs de routes commerciales. Le Pérou et les jeunes républiques voisines, la Bolivie et l’Équateur s’ouvrirent à la recherche étrangère, nombre de voyageurs français ont visité ces terres lointaines et ont produit des résultats scientifiques importants encore aujourd’hui. La France a exercé une fascination sur les élites péruviennes, du fait de ses penseurs politiques et de la culture littéraire et artistique. Les voyageurs furent de plus en plus nombreux tout au long du XIX^e siècle, à écrire des témoignages. Les reportages des Péruviens installés de plus longue date informaient du climat social et politique ; la Commune de Paris, la République puis la Grande Guerre à partir d’août 1914 ont occupé les colonnes des journaux liméniens. La France de la Belle Époque est le modèle européen pour lequel se sacrifient de jeunes Péruviens. Témoins illustres et voyageurs oubliés, ces innombrables auteurs de notre histoire biculturelle ont laissé des traces écrites de leur vécu en France ou au Pérou.

The turning point in the decision of regulating urban temporalities was The General States of the Night in Paris (2010) and in Geneva (2011). New lifestyles, the desynchronisation of social time with individual rhythms, the disruption oftraditional couplework/leisureinself-realizationand competitiveness between governors about urban marketing, explain this new point of view about urban life. Nowadays, how is nocturnal urban space occupied in central areas of large cities, but also in fringes? What does this gradual conquest of urban night-life mean ? How do we speak of everyday acceptanceand massive expansion in access to these nights? How can nightlife be appeased ?

  Aunque la Primera Guerra Mundial se ha identificado como un momento clave en la historia contemporánea de Europa y los Estados Unidos, éste no fue el caso para América Latina, en donde el primer conflicto total de la historia, sólo dio lugar a escasos trabajos exploratorios. A partir de una reflexión sobre las nociones de beligerancia, movilización y sobre la percepción del conflicto desde América Latina y su impacto en la vida política y económica interna de los países del continente, el propósito del coloquio es reevaluar la importancia que los años de 1914 a 1918 tuvieron en la historia contemporánea de América Latina. En esta coyuntura particular, se hará hincapié en las diversas experiencias del conflicto y en las múltiples conexiones que relacionan a los países de América Latina entre ellos, y con Europa.

More specifically, we wish to explore the hypothesis that the plurality of the theoretical and technical declensions of observation are particularly striking when this concerns spaces, their configurations and their uses. What status does observation grant to space? What are the original manners to grasp places and the social activities which produce them? What are the criteria of validity of this method? Which criticisms can we address to observation as a method ?

  The creation, experimentation and spread of Spanish and Latin-American contemporary theatre

  Influencé par les essais d'Antonin Artaud, de Jerzy Grotowski, de Bertolt Brecht, par les réalisations du Living Theatre, du Bread and Puppet, de l'Odin Teatret, de Peter Brook, de Tadeuz Kantor, ainsi que par le happening et la performance, le théâtre contemporain espagnol et latino-américain opte pour des créations souvent collectives par le biais desquelles puisse se construire une esthétique nouvelle où se mélangent les arts et s'intensifie l'expression corporelle. Il invite le public à la réflexion, à une immersion sensorielle. Il délivre un message politique, propose une vision critique de la société actuelle dénuée de toute intention moralisatrice. Il investit des espaces qui n'ont pas été pensés pour accueillir des représentations théâtrales. Il abolit parfois même les frontières entre la scène et la salle et il invite le public à participer à une cérémonie collective. Ce colloque international a pour objectif de réunir aussi bien des chercheurs spécialistes de théâtre espagnol et latino-américain que des professionnels des arts scéniques, des dramaturges, des metteurs en scène, des comédiens, des directeurs de théâtre et des professionnels de la traduction.

  La disparition d’Hugo Chávez en 2013, la séquence électorale qui a suivi et les récents événements politiques mettent en évidence les processus de transformation de la société et du système politique vénézuéliens et, par conséquent, la nécessité, pour les chercheurs, de s’interroger à leur sujet. Au-delà de l’actualité, ces processus trouvent leurs racines dans l’histoire du pays, mais également dans ses relations avec le reste du monde. Le groupe d’études interdisciplinaire sur le Venezuela (GEIVEN) organise sa quatrième journée d’études internationale, le vendredi 5 décembre 2014, à Paris.

  VIII edition of the International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art

  October 6, 1214. The Castilian monarch, Alfonso VIII, died on his way to Plasencia. Before the month had ended, his wife Eleanor Plantagenet followed him in the monastery of Las Huelgas in Burgos. To celebrate the eight-hundredth anniversary of their passing, the UCM’s Department of History of Art I (Medieval) organises the VIII edition of their International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art (12-14 November 2014), under the title “Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of England, Artistic Confluences Around 1200″.

  The goal of this conference is to question European urban fringes, which we define as precise or graduated transitional spaces where the city leaves space for something else : countryside, forests, “nature,” wasteland or fallow awaiting projects... These urban fringes can be understood at different scales, from the overall agglomeration down to the quarter or even at the installation project scale. This conference is designed as a moment of exchange making it possible to compare research and management experiences around this original object concentrating numerous issues. Different axes of analysis are proposed : Landscapes and urban fringe physiognomies ; agricultures and cities ; nature and biodiversity ; Urban margins : marginalising and social mixing ; Urban limits under constraint: risks and protected spaces.

  Knowledges, Sciences, Techniques and State building in Iberian America, 1790-1870

  Over the last few decades the renewal of the history of the sciences has been marked by an opening towards non-European spaces, especially the Iberian Americas, and by the study of the relations between knowledges and power. We now have at our disposal a growing body of work on the imperial sciences, the contribution of the colonies to the advancement of knowledge, more particularly the natural sciences, and on the Enlightenment and the links between sciences, revolutions and independence in the colonial territories. However it is the opposite hypothesis that we seek to explore, highlighting both the modalities by which the legacy of the imperial, colonial Enlightenment was passed on and transformed, and the processes which meant that late 19th century Ibero-American societies, including Brazil and the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean, were ready to take full advantage of the new scientistic paradigm with a rapidity that ought to strike us as surprising.

  Luxury in all its States: Foundations, Dynamic and Plurality

  This issue of “Revues Etudes Caribéennes” aims to reflect upon the concept of luxury, to invest the luxury in all its states. It comes to question the foundations of luxury, from the theory to the materiality, from the manufacture to the consumption, between provocative distinction and aesthetization in all walk of life. Within the context of this thematic issue, luxury is envisaged a multidisciplinary approach, ranging from philosophy to sociology, from the economy to the development of the territory... Imputs may approach luxury a specific angle (economics of luxury, the luxury throughout history). They can treat a particular dimension of luxury, through an emblematic product or construction of luxury territories. Special attention will be paid to the luxury industry with its brands and its logic of creation and production. Finally, luxury exist through the construction of its legends which are formed from many distinctive indicators that stimulate both the casual and the exclusive consumers.

  Mass tourism versus Alternative tourism

  The objective of this thematic issue is to call for various and renewed approaches which develop analysis in terms of the economy, regional planning, sociology, geography etc. Articles may propose a theoretical reflection or focus on case studies, dealing with the relations of mass tourism, alternative tourism, or to illustrate one of these two aspects. Priorities fields will not exclusively be Caribbean and American but can come from any part of the world and can illustrate post and/or present situations.
