The digital humanities have a growing impact on teaching, researching and on dissemination in the humanities, and are nowadays an almost mandatory approach for new research projects and for young researchers curriculum. This summer school aims at providing concrete answers to specific needs and challenges emerging from projects carried out by master and PhD students, and post-doctoral researchers in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

  Percepción, reacción y registro de fenómenos naturales antes de la Ilustración

  El volumen número 18 de la Revista de História da Sociedade e da Cultura incluirá un cuaderno monográfico compuesto por artículos centrados en analizar la percepción, la interpretación y el registro de fenómenos naturales en los periodos anteriores a la consolidación de la mentalidad científica moderna. A través de este cuaderno se pretende explorar cómo determinados fenómenos –climáticos, astronómicos, sismológicos, volcánicos, etc.– eran vividos, explicados y evaluados antes de que fuesen desarrolladas tecnologías capaces de anticiparlos, monitorizarlos y descifrarlos. Interesará, por ello, que se atienda a los documentos, relatos, representaciones (pictóricas, escultóricas, etc.) y vestigios (arqueológicos, arquitectónicos, urbanísticos, etc.) que ofrecen información sobre eclipses y cometas, tempestades y naufragios, erupciones volcánicas, crecidas de ríos, vendavales, sequías y otros acontecimientos de origen natural que, directa o indirectamente, dejaron marca en los coetáneos y pasaron a integrarse en la memoria colectiva.

  Reprendre un emploi après un accident du travail constitue un objet de recherche et d'intervention dont les analyses méritent une diffusion plus large. C'est la finalité de ce dossier préparé pour la revue Laboreal (laboreal.up.pt) par une équipe de chercheurs, psychologues et sociologues du travail portugais. Ce dossier doit en outre permettre d'identifier de nouvelles formes d'intervention dans et en dehors des entreprises, à différents niveaux, et en prenant en compte les questions touchant à l'amélioration des conditions de travail ainsi qu'à toutes les formes de soutien (individuel, collectif et institutionnel) qui permettraient à la victime d'un accident du travail de retrouver une vie active décente.

  Singing the Past

  Music and the Politics of Memory

  This international conference intends to investigate how songs can constitute means to narrate historical events as well as social and political figures.  This symposium intends to explore “unofficial” narratives that are clearly distinct from or opposing to political authority. This will allow us to investigate various relations to the past and how those may be performed, often through personal narratives constructing alternative histories.  Another central issue is the content of the songs. In other words, what in the songs’ material conveys historical and political meaning?  Nevertheless, it should not be studied apart from the music which conveys its social meaning. The choice of musical instruments, forms and aesthetics as well as musical borrowings or quotations highlights symbols that are superposed to and intertwined with textual content in a complex semiotic structure that needs to be unpacked.

  Entre los días 23 y 25 de Octubre de 2017, el Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM) va a organizar el V coloquio internacional «La nueva Lisboa medieval». La conmemoración de las conquistas de Lisboa en 1147 y de Alcácer do Sal en 1217 será el pretexto para un debate más amplio no sólo en torno a estos acontecimientos históricos, y su significado e impacto, sino también sobre el contexto en el que aparecieron enmarcados y de los caminos que se diseñaron y rediseñaron, tanto en la península como en sus conexiones con Oriente y Occidente.

  State-Rooms of Royal and Princely Palaces in Europe (14th-16th c.)

  Spaces, images, rituals

  From the fourteenth to the sixteenth century, European monarchies saw a gradual centralisation of power. This was accompanied by the dissemination of political ideas that contributed to the making of a new image of the prince, which relied on visual instruments to assert and construct the prince’s sovereign power. Royal and princely residences with their designated state-rooms were at the centre of this phenomenon. Their decors, particularly during ceremonies, reflected political interests and ambitions that were essential to the image of the prince. By placing a particular emphasis on the decor of those state-rooms, this workshop aims to increase our insights into the relations between the architecture, decoration, and rituals of monarchical power in state-rooms from the late middle ages to the beginning of the early modern period.
