  Anthropolgy Off Earth

  How terrestrial exploration and scientific imagination shape our relation to outer space and extraterrestrial life

  The workshop proposes to address such fundamental questions by examining practices of planetary modeling and analogue research from a social scientific perspective. For space exploration, at its most innovative, involves more than gathering new empirical data about the cosmos. It is not just about collating interesting observational discoveries, but also about reconsidering modern science’s set ways of imagining the cosmos. By focusing on the interface between rigorous observation and conceptual imagination, this workshop aims to trace the contours of an anthropology off Earth. The call for papers is open for anthropologists, “Sciences and technology studies” scholars, historians and philosophers of science and, more generally, for all social scientists interested in outer space as well as for planetary scientists and astrobiologists interested in the conceptual and imaginative dimensions of space exploration.

  Max Weber and philosophy

  Klêsis Journal

  Max Weber died in 1920. That will be 100 years in 2020. For this anniversary, Klêsis wishes to address a part of its work that has not been explored in a general way, his relationship to philosophy. In French, important works have analysed deeply the philosophical orientations of Weber's thought. They were able to question the problem of Weberian values and epistemology, but also his philosophical conception of reason and history, his understanding of religion in history, or his analyses on the rational social subject. In other languages, Jürgen Habermas' long interpretation of Weber in his Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns has given rise to a striking philosophical presence of Weber in political philosophy: Weber is one of the fathers of contemporary rationalist political philosophers. Finally, the philosophy of religion extends Weber's work on Protestant ethics, showing other places and manifestations of secularization effects. However, his work is so vast, its themes and the disciplines he has implemented so numerous, that many other fields of contemporary philosophy are heirs to his work. Cependant, son œuvre est si vaste, ses thématiques et les disciplines qu’il a mises en œuvre si nombreuses, que de nombreux autres domaines de la philosophie contemporaine sont héritiers de son œuvre.

  State-building, social movements and political economy

  Modernity was marked by the edification of increasingly complex and sophisticated state system, committed to governing territories and populations, through a multiplicity of administrative, fiscal, police and judicial networks. At the same time, new mechanisms for legitimizing political power emerged, based on the building of a public sphere and the dissemination of different forms of collective organization and mobilization: from associations to petitions, from political demonstrations to strikes and riots. Finally, a new regime of production and consumption was created in the form of a Political Economy directed to the creation of markets, the movement of goods and the accumulation of capital.

  Dispossession: Agency, ecology and theatrical reality

  TaPRA Theatre, Performance and Philosophy Working Group

  In Ursula Le Guin’s 1974 novel The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia, children are educated to engage only with what interests others; the opposite is considered self-indulgence, condemned as “egoizing”. The disowning of any idea of the self is considered a virtue, as is the ability to speak the language of others. Le Guin’s novel fictionalises a common narrative in processes of 20^th and early 21^st century art: the withdrawal of the self. In relation to concurrent processes that reclaim agency for those who are already dispossessed, that call for the legitimisation of systematically marginalised voices, is the withdrawal of the self merely a privilege? How might wilful dispossession and agency be related through difference, as interconnected transitions of power, in such a way that reveals theatricality in the construction of reality?

  Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” Nonetheless, access to information is frequently challenged and curtailed, through government, private, or individual actions; many of these acts may be considered censorship (depending upon one’s definition of censorship). Censorship, freedom of speech, and access to information have long been central concerns of library and information science.

  This workshop is organized by the University of Sarajevo Law Faculty and Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, Bosnia and Herzegovina with the participation of research members of the Paris Human Rights Center (CRDH) of the Panthéon-Assas University in France. Les pays qui tirent une forte rente de l’exploitation de matières premières voient souvent la majorité de leur population sombrer dans la pauvreté et la précarité.

  Le V^e colloque du Collège international des sciences territoriales (CIST2020) - qui se tiendra du 19 au 21 novembre 2020 sur le campus Condorcet, Paris-Aubervilliers - se propose d’aborder les enjeux théoriques, méthodologiques et pratiques soulevés par la prise en compte simultanée de la population, du temps et des territoires.   "Les rencontres d'Angoulême": thinking and understanding graphic novels. 6th edition

  Pour traiter du corps festif, trois entrées sont à privilégier. Sans doute faut-il prêter une attention particulière aux lieux. Des espaces semblent plus propices pour accueillir les corps en fête, la salle de banquet antique, la taverne, le festival où les corps se déhanchent et s’exhibent... Il convient également de s’attacher aux personnages. Dans certains romans graphiques la tentation est manifeste de conter et d’imaginer de nouvelles formes de corps festifs que l’on retrouve aussi bien chez Winsor McCay que dans l’œuvre de Moebius. Après le cadre, après les acteurs de la fête, il sera opportun de s’arrêter sur les circonstances festives. Les Rigoles, de Brecht Evens, aquarelles enjouées et mouvantes, reflets de la situation et des états d’âme, sont une sorte d’ode désenchantée à la fête : les corps s’agitent, expérimentent, s’immobilisent, se perdent dans une double page.

  The politicisation and depoliticisation of work in the contemporary enterprise and beyond

  Aujourd’hui, dans un contexte de changements socio-économiques importants, la relation de travail qui s’est affirmée après la seconde guerre mondiale connaît des évolutions majeures. Des enjeux comme la précarisation de l’emploi et des conditions de travail ainsi que le nombre croissant des working poors se posent de manière plus aiguë. À cela, s’ajoutent des enjeux nouveaux comme le brouillage des frontières spatio-temporelles entre vie professionnelle et vie privée. Ces enjeux échappent souvent aux mécanismes de la négociation ou de la délibération collective, ils sont alors le reflet d’une dépolitisation de la relation de travail. Cependant, on observe aussi des mouvements de réaction visant à repolitiser le travail : ils s’organisent parfois autour d’objets nouveaux et mobilisent aussi des acteurs nouveaux. Ces phénomènes de repolitisation du travail connaissent une ampleur différente suivant les secteurs économiques et les pays.

  We invite papers for the 25th issue of the intersdiciplinary academic journal Interstudia, based at the Faculty of Letters, Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau, Romania. The proposed topic for this issue is "The construction of reality in the post-truth age". We will accept articles written in English, French, Italian and Spanish whose main points of interest will be related to ideas deriving from these following themes for reflection: the role of language in the construction of post-truth, the manipulation of emotion in the media, ethics and post-truth, the role of humanities in the preservation of human values, truth versus opinion in the post-truth society, the relation among data, information and knowledge, ICT and post-truth, the role of numerical devices in the propagation of post-truth attitudes. These are only suggested topics, and should not be considered exhaustive. authors should be free in choosing their topic of research within the frame offered by the general title.
