Le colloque a pour objectif, entre autres, de procéder à un inventaire du patrimoine de Ziguinchor laissé par les Portugais, aussi bien sous sa forme matérielle qu’immatérielle : architecture, routes, édifices, cimetières, gastronomie, imaginaire, contes, chants, musique, danse, langues, patronymes, etc. Plus qu’un simple inventaire de patrimoine, il s’agit d’aller à la découverte d’une partie de la mémoire de la ville de Ziguinchor dont le cheminement historique prend parfois sa source en territoire bissau-guinéen.

Migrations and exiles

One of the 20th century's main features was the large movements of people abandoning their places of origin for economic, political and social reasons. Migration-fostering conditions, like the search for sufficient means of subsistence, escaping from armed conflict and political and religious persecution, are intensified by economic crises and the advent of authoritarian Governments. In the host countries, emigrants, exiles and refugees form associations, publish periodicals, hold commemorations and foster socialisation tools, which make them a group with a national identity and/or a specific political positioning. Concomitantly, they undergo acculturation, as a result of their inevitable adjustment to the new reality, translated into the activities they perform and the structure of the relations they keep with the host country.

From a comparing and transversal perspective, gathering different theoretical and artistic subjects, this congress aims at opening an interdisciplinary dialog, as well as putting into play the different questions that contemporaneity asks about the body. Knowing their territorial cultural differences, each historical period produces a different concept of body and person, which is intimately connected to what goes around on the artistic, theoretical, technological, social, politic and economic fields that sustain it. From an interdisciplinary point of view, this meeting intends to propose and get on the tracks of an investigation that can favour understanding the construction of corporality in our contemporary context.

Exodes, déplacements et déracinements

Revue Elohi n°8

Pour son prochain numéro, la revue Elohi, Peuples indigènes et environnement se propose de réfléchir sur les liens entre le territoire et les constructions, discours, ressentis identitaires des peuples indigènes, en envisageant notamment la question des déplacements des populations. Devenus étrangers sur la terre de leurs ancêtres depuis la colonisation, les indigènes ont connu des processus de déterritorialisation, reterritorialisation et exodes. Souhaitant également inclure les problématiques brésiliennes à ses travaux, la revue Elohi accueillera des contributions qui examinent la notion de « terre indigène », la démarcation d’un territoire et la représentation que s’en font les peuples indigènes et non-indigènes.

Research Video Festival on the Slave Trade, Slavery and their Legacies

Over the last five years, the International Research Center on Slaveries (CIRESC / France) has organized the “Research video festival on the slave trade, slavery and their legacies”, in collaboration with the Oral History and Visual Studies Laboratory of the Federal University of Fluminense (LABHO / Brazil) and the Interuniversity Research Center on Literature, Arts and Traditions of the University of Laval (CELAT / Canada). The festival targets scholars or non-scholars conducting research in the social and human sciences on the slave trade, slavery and their legacies, and who are using videos to disseminate their findings. The main goal is to foster, circulate and promote the production of films on these issues.

Discrepancies: the life and work of José Rodrigues Miguéis

Lorsqu’il quitte le Portugal pour les États-Unis en 1935, José Rodrigues Miguéis (1901-1980) est un écrivain prometteur et un journaliste et militant politique reconnu, ancien membre du groupe Seara Nova, maintenant proche des communistes. À New-York, il poursuit ses activités militantes durant une dizaine d’années puis, après une grave maladie et une tentative infructueuse de retour définitif au Portugal, il finit par se consacrer pleinement à l’écriture. La majeure partie de son œuvre ne sera publiée en volume qu’à partir de 1958, à près de soixante ans, si bien que l’écrivain exilé se retrouve en décalage avec le Portugal (ses lecteurs, la société et la dictature en vigueur), mais aussi avec la vision du monde ayant présidé à l’écriture d’une grande partie de ses écrits inédits. C’est dans le cadre de ce parcours biobibliographique particulier que les communicants s’intéresseront à l’œuvre fictionnelle et non fictionnelle migueisienne. Alors que son œuvre est de plus en plus étudiée au Portugal, aux USA et au Brésil, ce premier colloque consacré à José Rodrigues Miguéis en France sera l’occasion de mieux faire connaître cette grande figure méconnue de l’histoire culturelle portugaise du XX^e siècle.

Les droites latino-américaines pendant la guerre froide (1959–1989) : l’autre révolution ?

Les Cahiers des Amériques latines

Les Cahiers des Amériques latines, journal ot the Institut des hautes études sur l’Amérique latine (université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3) invites social scientists to deepen this exploration of the Latin American Right Wings during the Cold War (1959-1989). Assuming that we can not understand them without inscribing their temporality and historicity in the Cold War, we will ask us if there is a new political generation emerging in the 60’s and if this generation is connected to the neo-conservative revolution of Ronald Reagan and Margareth Thatcher in the 80’s. This issue, to be published in the fall of 2015, will focuse on the circulation of ideas and theories, actors and practices, symbols and subjectivities of political parties and political leaders, but also of social, economic and cultural actors. It will favor empirically based articles with a comparative reading of Latin American Rights or with a connected history approach within the Euro-American space.

De tout temps, les populations se sont rassemblées dans les cités portuaires et sur les espaces littoraux. Autrefois réservée à la pêche, au commerce et aux opérations militaires, la mer est devenue depuis plus de deux siècles, espace de loisir et objet de recherche. Mer et littoral prennent une importance croissante dans les pratiques et les enjeux de l’humanité. Il s’agit donc, aujourd’hui et demain, de l’exploiter de façon productive et dans un souci de durabilité. Ces enjeux, sources d’activités sociales, d’innovations (technologiques, socioéconomiques) et de conflits (locaux, internationaux), méritent qu’anthropologues, sociologues, économistes, historiens, géographes, juristes, littéraires, s’intéressent à ce monde gigantesque, dans un rapport interdisciplinaire avec les sciences biologiques, halieutiques ou océanographiques.

Following on Lisbon in 2013, the Sixth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS-6) will take place in Paris 8-10 July 2015 at the Sorbonne. The co-organisers are IMAF (Institut des mondes africains) and LAM (Les Afriques dans le monde). The principal theme of ECAS 6, outlined below, is Collective Mobilisations in Africa: Contestation, Resistance, Revolt. This theme, however, is not exclusive. The scientific committee will also consider panel proposals on other themes, associated with emergent and more classical fields of study alike.

About journalism Review

Ce numéro, consacré à l’éditorial, cherchera à soumettre à l’examen un genre que les journalistes eux-mêmes considèrent comme noble et auquel, pourtant, les chercheurs n’ont accordé que très peu d’attention. Certes les historiens des idées les dépouillent avec soin afin de reconstituer le « climat d’opinion » qui a prévalu à différentes époques, sur différents enjeux et dans différents contextes sociopolitiques. Les analystes du discours y puisent aussi un corpus des procédés discursifs à répertorier et à caractériser. Mais l’éditorial a été peu étudié pour lui-même, en tant que genre journalistique dont on chercherait à saisir les propriétés, les conditions de production, les évolutions et l’influence sur le débat public.

The TRANSFOPRESS project, initiated by Diana Cooper-Richet in 2012, aims at coordinating studies on the press in foreign languages published in different countries and getting researchers from different fields to work together to identify, organize and analyze this particular corpus of neglected documents. The second TRANSFOPRESS MEETING (II) follows up the RENCONTRE TRANSFOPRESS I which took place in November 2013, at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), in Paris. Its objective is to bring together all the colleagues concerned by the project to present their findings.

Revolution and cinema: the Portuguese example

In honour of the fortieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, this three-day international conference seeks to interrogate the cinematic representation of the political event from 1974 to today. Paul Ricœur states that “rethinking is a form that cancels temporal distance.” To rethink the revolution would then entail making the revolution present, making it come alive, bringing the past and the present together, questioning the effects of the passing of time on the images, the narratives and on cinema itself as an historical device. Today’s acute economic and political crisis in Portugal shakes the very foundations of April’s democracy, and this legacy could perhaps use the present as the inaugural strength of another history to come. Taking the cinema of revolution as a nodal point and as a major historical shift, which links – other than referential and chronological ones –, unify the pre- and post-revolutionary Portuguese cinemas? In other words, how can this idea of “revolution” remain, irrigate and illuminate Portuguese cinema?

Knowledges, Sciences, Techniques and State building in Iberian America, 1790-1870

Over the last few decades the renewal of the history of the sciences has been marked by an opening towards non-European spaces, especially the Iberian Americas, and by the study of the relations between knowledges and power. We now have at our disposal a growing body of work on the imperial sciences, the contribution of the colonies to the advancement of knowledge, more particularly the natural sciences, and on the Enlightenment and the links between sciences, revolutions and independence in the colonial territories. However it is the opposite hypothesis that we seek to explore, highlighting both the modalities by which the legacy of the imperial, colonial Enlightenment was passed on and transformed, and the processes which meant that late 19th century Ibero-American societies, including Brazil and the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean, were ready to take full advantage of the new scientistic paradigm with a rapidity that ought to strike us as surprising.

« La déconstruction n’a pas besoin de la déconstruction », a dit un jour Jacques Derrida en suggérant par là que, de la Déconstruction, ce geste et cet idiome de la pensée philosophique désormais liés à son nom, il y en a, bien malgré nous, à l’œuvre partout et depuis toujours au beau milieu de la civilisation occidentale – et cela comme un signe de notre incondition et comme une flèche télé-po-ét(h)ique tirée vers l’avenir. Comme une promesse ré-inventive d’avenir. D’où l’indéconstructibilité de la Déconstruction : l’immense vulnérabilité de cette pensée est aussi sa force invincible, indéconstructible ; son attention veilleuse au passé à hériter, à bien hériter, ne se distinguant paradoxalement pas d’un lucide rêver l’avenir – une pensée qui, à la limite de la philosophie, aimantée même par cette limite, nous donne et nous appelle à chaque pas à repenser la re-naissance in-finie des savoirs, de même que leur transversalité d’origine : de la Philosophie et de l’enseignement de la Philosophie à la Littérature, de la Psychanalyse aux Arts et à la Culture, de la Politique au Droit et aux Droits Humains, de la Religion, à la Technologie et à la Science, cette pensée impossible, juste et exigeante, traverse les Départements de Philosophie et se trouve à l’œuvre partout aujourd’hui dans l’Institution et dans la vie.
